Itinerary and Event Details

This is a special plan following the journey of the gods during Kamiarizuki (10th Month of the Lunar Calendar). You will have the privilege of entering the Yatsuashi-mon Gate, watching a special prayer service for evening Kagura at Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, and visiting the Museum of Ancient Izumo by night. Finally, during the “NAORAI Dining” experience, you will have a special dinner at Izumo Cultural Heritage Museum before enjoying Izumo Kagura performances.
On the second day, you will be able to listen to a Shinto priest talk at Mankusen Shrine about Shinto, “Naorai”, and other topics.

What is "NAORAI"?

Naorai has two meanings: one is a "divine banquet" held on the eve of the departure of the gods gathered in Izumo during the month of Kamiarizuki. The other is a banquet held after a festival or other Shinto ritual held at a shrine, where sake and offerings are given in appreciation of the people's labor.
This time, we will hold a special banquet under the new name of "NAORAI" to entertain visitors coming to Izumo with high added value foods and sake, and a performance of Izumo Kagura (Shinto music and dance).

One-off Experiences

(A tour guide will accompany you on the entire tour)
【Day 1】
At Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, you will enter the Yatsuashimon Gate, which is normally inaccessible, and visit the main shrine.
You will attend the "Special Evening Kagura Prayer Service," which is not usually held, and, for the first time ever, with an English-speaking guide.
The Museum of Ancient Izumo, a museum related to Izumo mythology and Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine, will be rented out for a guided tour by a curator.
At the NAORAI dining experience, you will enjoy a special dinner prepared with locally grown ingredients and a performance of Izumo Kagura (Shinto music and dance) in Izumo Yashiki, complete with light effects.

【Day 2】
At Mankusen Shrine, you will go up to the shrine main building where you cannot normally enter and listen to a lecture by a Shinto priest. This special program concludes the "Journey of the Gods in Izumo" with a talk by a Shinto priest about Izumo mythology, Shinto rituals, and the culture of Naorai, followed by a prayer.
